UND Wellness Center Opens
GRAND FORKS, ND -- The University of North Dakota (UND) celebrated the grand opening of its new Student Wellness Center in late September. The $19.7-million center, located at the university’s main campus in Grand Forks, ND, will replace a much smaller facility.
The two-story, 107,606-square-foot center dwarfs the school’s original facility, which consisted of less than 6,000 square feet. Betting anticipates that the new facility will serve 3,000 students, a three-fold increase over the previous facility’s 1,000 students. The facility contains a three-court recreation gymnasium and a multi-purpose gymnasium; fitness/weight/cardiovascular training area; group exercise rooms; aerobics, Pilates and yoga rooms; climbing wall and spinning studio. The facility will also have a suspended running track that surrounds the three-court gym and wraps around the fitness/weight area.
Students can learn to cook healthy foods in the center’s demonstration kitchen or meditate, study quietly or just relax in a lounge. A nutrition bar, multiple fireplaces, wireless Internet and bicycle paths are other features of the center.
