UNLV Breaks Ground For New Student Rec
LAS VEGAS — The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) recently had a groundbreaking ceremony for a new $54-million Student Recreation Center.
The 184,000-square-foot center was funded by a student fee of $130 per semester that goes to both the new rec and to the new Moyer Student Union.
“This is a significant achievement for UNLV students,” said Dr. Rebecca Mills, vice president for student life. “Because both buildings are being funded by revenue from activity fees, students have actively participated in the entire planning process for these new facilities and provided important feedback in evaluating what amenities are most important to them.”
The center will include group fitness studios, full-length basketball courts, racquetball and volleyball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a full-service juice bar and bistro with an outdoor patio, an indoor jogging track.
The center will also include the Rebel Wellness Zone, a joint venture between Recreation Services, the Student Health Center and Psychological Services. The zone was created to give students a comprehensive approach to physical, mental and emotional wellness.
