Seventy Percent of Dieters Follow Their Own Diet Plan

BOSTON -- One-third of dieters have tried supplements to lose weight, and 70 percent are trying to diet on their own without a doctor’s help, according to a recent survey by the University of Connecticut. Of the 1,679 survey respondents, 40 percent of the obese respondents and 72 percent of the overweight respondents were not advised to lose weight by their doctors. The survey also found that of those who went to the doctor and were prescribed weight loss medication, 38 percent were not given information on side effects, 34 percent were not told to change their diets and 40 percent were not advised to exercise.
