Activity Fee Increases at Iowa
Iowa City, Ia — Construction of a new $69.2 million campus recreation and wellness center began last month at the University of Iowa. Funds for the new facility will come from student activity fees, which will jump from $4 annually to $219 in the fall 2009 semester.
The fee will apply to all University of Iowa students and will allow them access to the new center, according to the Daily Iowan. The increased fee will help pay for the construction of the center as well as staff salaries. The building, which is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2009, will include an Olympic-size swimming pool and a 55-foot rock climbing wall.
