YMCA Promotes Active Living and Healthy Eating with National Fitness Initiative

NATIONWIDE -- The YMCA of the USA is encouraging Americans to improve their nutrition and increase their amount of exercise during the America on the Move Week from Sept. 23 to 30. YMCAs are tracking participants’ number of steps with the goal of 1 billion steps nationally during the month of September. During this week, participants are encouraged to eat 100 fewer calories per day and take 2,000 more steps, which is equal to about a mile. More than 900 YMCAs nationwide are organizing activities to help their members make healthy lifestyle changes.
