Wolverine World Wide Family YMCA Expands by 40 Percent

Belmont, Mi — Just two-and-a-half years after opening its doors, the Wolverine World Wide Family YMCA in Belmont, MI, has undergone a $2 million, 17,795-square-foot expansion. The expansion increases the facility's size by nearly 40 percent.

After 24 months in operation, the Y found itself at capacity — serving more than 9,600 members — almost double the number the facility had projected for its original opening.

The Y helped raise $900,000 for the expansion, says Ron Nelson, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids (the Y umbrella organization of all Ys in the Grand Rapids, MI, area).

The expansion added more family locker rooms, an expanded Kid Zone, a multipurpose room, a youth and family gymnasium, a kids' fitness center, and the James Balk Family Wellness Center.
