YWCA Builds $15 Million Sports Center
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Attracting more teenage girls is the driving force behind YWCA of Winston-Salem's new $15 million, 90,000-square-foot sports complex.
“This project represents a unique departure for YWCAs in the Southeast region and even on a national scale,” said Robin Ervin, director of marketing and development for the YWCA. “[There are] only one or two YWCAs of its kind in the country.”
The $15 million Girls and Women's Sports and Wellness Center will feature a cyber café, aerobics studios, a cycling studio, child resource center, an eight-lane competition pool, an indoor track, four volleyball courts, a family water park, and a tournament basketball and sports arena. To draw in more teens, the YWCA will build a fitness center specifically for girls aged 16 and older. The Y is designing a separate area for girls aged 10 to 14 years old.
The Y will be located in the city's 42-acre development, which will feature condos and retail establishments and feature village concept living.
