Seattle YMCA CEO To Lead YMCA of the USA

CHICAGO — Neil J. Nicoll, the new president and CEO of the YMCA of the USA, is looking forward to helping families attain a healthier lifestyle. The 59-year-old chair of YMCA's Activate America steering committee was appointed in May as the president and CEO of the Y after 35 years of service in various YMCA leadership positions.

“As the nation's oldest and largest community service organization, YMCAs are uniquely positioned today to serve children, families and communities,” he said. “I am thrilled to take on this responsibility in that crucial enterprise, to enhance family life and health as the YMCA has done historically, building spirit, mind and body for all.”

Nicoll currently serves as the CEO of the Y of Greater Seattle, a post he has held since 1992, and will officially take office as the 13th leader of the Y of the USA on June 26. He began his career with the Y in 1968 as a program director with the YMCA of Greater Baltimore and also held leadership positions with the Boston, Worcester, MA, and Washington, D.C., YMCAs.

Daniel Casey, the chairman of the board who led the search for a new Y president, said Nicoll is a first rate manager of organizational systems.

“He is an innovative leader with the vision and inspired leadership qualities to take YMCAs to new heights in their service to children, families and the nation,” Casey said.
