Y Buys Hospital Fitness Center

CHESAPEAKE, VA — To concentrate its resources on clinical and medical services, the Chesapeake Hospital Authority in Chesapeake, VA, sold its Lifestyle Center to the YMCA of South Hampton Roads. The center's staff will remain with the fitness center. Members can switch to a YMCA membership or continue the hospital membership rates through June 2007.

The Lifestyle Center had been open to those 13 and older, but the new YMCA will be open to adults and children of all ages. At a meeting with hospital and YMCA officials, adult members raised concerns about having an increased number of children in the facility, but Terri Reedy of the Y said the Y's ownership of the facility will offer many future benefits to the members such as $300,000 in new equipment and an outdoor pool.
