Beginning to Work Out Is Main Battle, Survey Says

NEW YORK – Sixty-five percent of people surveyed said that getting motivated to do their first workout is the hardest part about starting an exercise routine, according to a survey from GymTicket.com, a health club search engine.

The survey asked 10,000 people who were thinking about joining a gym why they had not begun to work out. The respondents also indicated that lack of time stopped them from beginning a workout program. Ten percent of respondents said their hold-up was that they disliked exercising too much to start.

“This survey underscores the biggest hurdle to getting fit—your first workout,” says Gymticket.com CEO Howard Lerman. “We’ve set out to make getting your first workout as easy as possible and have helped hundreds of thousands of people do so already.”

Custom Fitness owner Jeff Rutstein, a fitness expert and the author of "Rutstein on Fitness,” adds: “The results of this survey indicate the significant role the initial workout plays in starting and maintaining a regular fitness regiment. After the ice is broken, each workout becomes a little easier, so making that first workout as convenient as possible is key to launching a healthier you.”
