Women-only Club Closes

SAN MATEO, CA -- Inches-A-Weigh, a women-only fitness club, abruptly shut down its operation Monday, and many members say they were overcharged for membership dues in recent weeks, according to InsideBayArea.com.

The club’s owner, Connie DiVecchio, could not be reached for comment, but a man who claimed to be her husband says the couple was going bankrupt and had to close the business or risk losing their home, according to the media report.

San Mateo, CA, police are investigating whether DiVecchio intentionally bilked her customers out of their money before closing her doors. Several members say they noticed their debit accounts were double-charged without their consent. If there is any merit to the allegations, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office, according to the report.
