Spectrum Clubs Team with Virgin and Humana for Test

SAN ANTONIO — Rewarding healthy behavior may be one way for employers to entice their employees to exercise, and a trial program at Spectrum Athletic Clubs is putting this concept to the test. Spectrum is teaming with Virgin Life Care and insurer Humana Inc. to offer certificates for goods and services to people who work out. The teaming is a trial run of a program that is already in place in South Africa and Namibia.

Participants in the program earn Virgin Life Care HealthMile points by exercising or taking measurements at a Virgin Life Care HealthZone. Spectrum clubs are the only U.S. HealthZone locations offered during the trial, and both members and nonmembers can use the HealthZone to track their progress. Points earned can later be converted to Virgin Cash, which can be used to purchase a variety of products and services offered by 40 partnering merchants, including Amazon.com, Bath & Body Works and Target. Humana is the first insurer to team with Virgin in the United States. Virgin intends to work with other insurers and health clubs in the future to offer the same program. In fact, the company plans to test the program in Tampa Bay, FL, in the future.
