Illinois-Chicago Celebrates National Recreation Sports and Fitness Day

CHICAGO – The university of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) celebrated the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association’s (NIRSA) National Recreation Sports and Fitness Day on Feb. 22 by offering an open house at its Student Recreation Facility (SRF), Sport and Fitness Center and Bowling and Billiards Center.

Students, faculty and staff were invited to all facilities to learn about the programs offered by UIC’s Campus Recreation (CR) department. The CR’s massage therapy program offered free 10-minute massages while the Human Performance Lab set up an “Ask the Trainer” table. Spin classes, the climbing wall and bowling were free for participants. CR also set up free-throw contests, a three-point contest and a hot-shot contest.

“I was happy the sports clubs were there to get advertisements out to students who may not have known they existed,” UIC director of campus recreation Ray Clay told the Chicago Flame, UIC’s independent student newspaper.
