Pre-Exercise Screening Software
Health professionals have long realized the importance of pre-exercise
screening before an individual begins an exercise program. Now, new
software designed to explain and automate the American College of
Sports Medicine’s 1995 pre-exercise screening guidelines helps
users spot and control risks in only a few moments. HealthScreen, from
Human Kinetics Publishers, allows a client’s demographic,
exercise and medical information to be entered into a computer, and
with the click of a button, the appropriate screening decisions are
automatically made. Users know in seconds whether the individual in
question should obtain a medical evaluation before beginning an
exercise program. Contact Human Kinetics, 1607 N. Market St., P.O. Box

Small Dryers
Milnor has expanded its line of small dryers to include several new
models. The new dryers include the M82, the M96, the M122, the M175 and
the M190. All of these dryers provide high productivity by drying
quickly. High heat input and airflow rates enhance efficiency. Large
baskets allow free tumbling and better exposure to hot air for fast
drying. These dryers also use the Phase 6 microprocessor, which offers
six preset dry cycles that are all reprogrammable. Automatic drying
helps prevent overdrying and a programmable cooldown mode guards
against wrinkles. Contact Pellerin Milnor Corp., P.O. Box 400, Kenner,

Customized Free Weights
The Iron Grip Barbell Co. is offering a new custom decoration option
for its heavy-duty commercial line of free weight equipment. Permanent,
custom decoration is now available on Iron Grip urethane Olympic plates
(45, 35 and 25 lb. sizes) and urethane dumbbells. To customize the
Urethane products, the process begins with the customer’s logo
being scanned into a computer where it can be manipulated. This
computer-generated logo is then sent to a computer-controlled engraver,
which engraves the custom logo into the outer surface of the urethane
plate. The engraved logo is then filled in with a specialized liquid
urethane and precisely heated in a process that bonds this urethane
permanently to the engraved surface. Contact Iron Grip Barbell Co.,

Automated External Defibrillator
Medtronic Physio-Control recently an-nounced clearance by the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration of a biphasic waveform version of the
LIFEPAK 500 automated external defibrillator (AED). Medtronic’s
new 3D biphasic technology adjusts three elements of the defibrillation
shock, thereby optimizing shock performance and successful
defibrillation. The first dimension is energy. Devices incorporting 3D
biphasic technology are capable of delivering shocks at escalating
energy levels from 200 joules up to 360. In addition, the 3D biphasic
waveform adjusts both the duration of the shock and its voltage to
compensate for patient impedance so the heart receives the intended
shock energy. Contact Medtronic Physio-Control Corp., 11811 Willows
