NJ Assemblyman Introduces Legislation to Abolish Gym Tax
TRENTON, NJ – The American Heart Association is supporting a New Jersey assemblyman’s proposal to eliminate the sales tax levied on health club memberships. Assemblyman Bill Baroni (R-Hamilton, NJ), who lost 130 pounds from a regular exercise regimen at the Robert Wood Johnson Center for Health and Wellness, introduced legislation to abolish the tax to make it easier for people to join a fitness center. The new 7 percent sales tax is expected to raise $74 million. If the tax is repealed, the money must be replaced, according to an article in Times of Trenton.
