Life Time Fitness Founder Faces Felony Charge
EDEN PRAIRIE, MN — Bahram Akradi, Life Time Fitness CEO, may face five years of jail time and/or a $10,000 fine for an incident that occurred last February.
Akradi was charged with felony damage to property and a misdemeanor assault for a parking lot incident at his daughter's high school. According to the criminal complaint, Akradi cut off a high school student in the Minnetonka High School parking lot. When a 17-year-old student honked at Akradi, Akradi allegedly got out of his Hummer and slammed his fist on the front panel of the teenager's 1995 BMW. Because the car damage totaled $749.91, Akradi was charged with a felony.
Akradi also allegedly opened the student's car door and tried to drag him from the car, an allegation that led to the misdemeanor assault charge. The district attorney plans to make Akradi pay for the damage and serve time on a work squad.
Akradi plans to defend himself against the claim, which a Life Time Fitness statement called “unproven, insignificant and irrelevant.” Akradi's lawyer couldn't be reached for comment as of press time.
