Global Fitness to Develop 50 Gold's Gyms By 2012

LEXINGTON, KY — Global Fitness Holdings, the largest Gold's Gym franchisee in the world, is planning to add 50 Gold's Gym locations in Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio over the next six years. Global signed a deal with Laurel Crown Capital, a Los Angeles private equity firm, to build the new Gold's Gyms. The locations will include a 5,000-square-foot children's area called the Fit Factory, which will feature kids' strength-training equipment, a movie theater, basketball court, computer stations and a play area. The fitness facilities will also include an indoor pool, an elevated indoor track, a cardio deck, a cardio movie cinema, a women-only fitness area, group exercise classes and tanning booths. The clubs will range from 45,000 to 60,000 square feet and cater to the higher income residential areas in the tri-state region.
