Construction Resumes After Club’s Building Collapses

DE PERE, WI – Construction crews recently returned to the site where a building that will house a Snap Fitness health club collapsed, injuring four men.

The collapse occurred on Aug. 21. Three of the men, who are employed by Port City Structures of Green Bay, WI, Nickel Electric Inc. of Green Bay and Snap Fitness of De Pere, WI, were treated and released from a hospital, a spokesperson from the De Pere Police Department told the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The fourth man, John Vandenlangenberg, 40, of Green Bay, had been trapped for a short time under materials. He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Vandenlangenberg’s uncle, who also is a site foreman, refused to comment about his nephew’s condition or about the building’s collapse to the Press-Gazette. Hospital staff had no information available, the newspaper reported.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and officials from Wisconsin’s Department of Commerce completed an on-site investigation on Aug. 22, De Pere building inspector Dave Hongisto told the newspaper.
